Selecting a lighter that is best for your needs can be a difficult task. There are numerous differences in models, flame configurations and styles on the market which can make this task all the more difficult.

Cigarette smokers are able to utilize nearly all types of lighters, including matches. However, cigar and pipe smokers require a special type of lighter to ensure that the taste of their tobacco is not tainted. Most cigar and pipe smokers prefer some kind of torch lighter. Even still, there are a wide variety of torch lighters and determining which flame configuration is best for your needs can be difficult.

While a torch lighter offers numerous benefits, you will need to determine which flame configuration is right for your needs. If you smoke cigarettes, a single flame torch is the best choice, as the double and triple flame models might produce too much fire and will use up unnecessary fuel.  However, if you smoke a pipe or a cigar, you can easily make use of double and triple flame torch lighters.  How can these be of benefit to you?  Simply put, the wider the flame, the easier it is to light your smoking product.

For instance, if you smoke cigars, a double flame torch lighter can give you greater fire to tobacco contact, helping to ensure that you get an even light every time.  If you smoke a pipe, then a triple flame torch lighter might be the best choice. These offer a wider flame tip that can ignite the contents of your entire bowl, without forcing you to suffer through partial burns and repeated tamping procedures due to unburned tobacco. Using these lighters is quite simple and can help ensure that, no matter what you're smoking, it is lit on the first try.

For instance, a torch lighter can be held upside down and the flame still projects directly out from the lighter.  This is opposed to other types of lighters, where the flame always tends to move toward the upward position (a painful situation for your fingers).  With this type of torch lighter, pipe smokers can ensure that they are able to light their bowl without singeing their fingers or lighting only half the tobacco in the bowl.  As mentioned, cigar smokers can also benefit from double and triple torch lighters, as they can help ensure a cleaner, more even lighting process and keep runs and partial burns to a minimum.
