Wrappers are a very important part of a cigar. Not only do wrappers play a functional role, they also play a role in the experience of a cigar. Knowing the differences in wrapper types can help you determine what cigar might be best for you. Can you explain how a Colorado wrapper differs from a Maduro wrapper? Do you know how a Claro wrapper will influence a cigars taste? Below, we explain each wrapper type in detail and the properties each wrapper type imparts on the experience of a cigar.
Double Claro: Making for an enjoyable smoke due to a slightly sweet taste, the Double Claro wrapper is light green in hue but is not widely found due to the decrease in it's use for cigar production.
Colorado: Grown in shade to produce a thinner leaf, the Colorado wrapper can be brown, with a bit of red thrown in. Usually, these wrappers are somewhat strong when you use butane torch lighters or other flame producers to light them.
Claro: Different from the Double Claro, this wrapper is also grown in the shade and has a tan hue. The most distinct difference in the Claro wrapper is that, generally, it is more mild in comparison to most other wrapper types.
Maduro: The Maduro wrapper undergoes a longer curing process and thus contributs to a very smooth smoking experience. This type of wrapper has a range of brown and black hues and is widely preferred by all levels of cigar smokers, novices and afficionados alike.
There are a number of additional wrappers available on the market. Examples would be Colorado Claro wrappers, Colorado Maduro wrappers as well as many others. We have taken a look at some of the more frequently found and unique wrapper types. Selecting a cigar based on its wrapper can have a profound impact on your smoking experience and enjoyment and is just as important as the selection of cigar size as well as method of lighting your cigar.
Selecting the right wrapper for you can be a fun exploration and can assist you with experiencing a multitude of cigar brands from across the globe.
